London shopping

London is one of the most "with it" shopping cities in the world and the UK's shopping mecca. Many shops and streets are tourist attractions in their own right - Carnaby Street, centre of the fashion world in the 60's, Harrods, the shop that sells everything, Harvey Nichols, a designer delight. Many shops are found in areas such as Knightsbridge, Regent Street, Bond Street and Oxford Street. Side streets are crammed with Antique, Craft and Specialist shops.

Opening hours are generally 9am to 6pm, Monday to Saturday. Most stores have winter and summer sales, although the post-Christmas sales are the best. If you are aiming to hunt for bargains in January start early and prepare to shop till you drop, alongside millions of others. Tourists who have purchased anything between £50 - £100 should keep all receipts and reclaim the 17.5% VAT. It is possible to send off for a refund at the airport, which usually takes 6 weeks.
